For Digital Future | August 5, 2008
NASA Images is a service of the Internet Archive, a nonprofit library, to offer public access to collections of images, videos and audio files from NASA. The web is constantly growing with the addition of content currently obtained by NASA, as well as digitized information from the files of the Centers for NASA.
The goal of NASA is to increase our understanding Images of the earth, our solar system and the universe beyond, in order to benefit mankind by providing millions of internet users thousands of images and videos with a powerful engine behind and search capabilities of advanced visualization and navigation within the browser.
NASA and Internet Archive signed a Space Act Agreement in 2007 to create this service, but Internet Archive receives no financial support from NASA. The project is funded through a grant from the Foundation Kahle-Austin and looking for new sponsors.
The interface was developed by NASA Images Luna Imaging and the Web has seen the light beginning this August.
